Harden A Free Agent

Just when you think the news cannot get any worse for the Cubs it did today.

I found out Rich Harden, the Cubs' best starting pitcher in the second half, will be a free agent after this season and he will definitely add to the already outrageous payroll the second place Cubs already have.

Even though Harden typically cannot make it past the 6th inning he has done exactly that and then some this second half. Since the All Star break Harden has gone 3-1 with a minuscule 1.64 ERA and has averaged over 6 IP per start.

Not bad for a guy who was 5-6 with a 5.47 ERA before the All Star break.

Harden is due to become a free agent after this season and will look to make around Ted Lilly and Ryan Dempster money who make $13 million and $8 million respectively.

The Cubs payroll of over $135 million puts them in third place behind the two New York teams and goes to show you spending money does not always equal winning, but wisely investing money does.

Cubs GM Jim Hendry will likely resign Harden this off season and add to the already outrageous payroll.

I am looking forward to this off season as the Cubs will likely try to move Alfonso Soriano and Milton Bradley, but last I checked the Cubs were the only team interested in those bozos.

This should be a fun off season and hopefully Hendry can figure out how to spend money wisely.
